Highlands North at a glance

Highlands North is one of Johannesburg's older suburbs.  The houses are compact and on manageable size stands which mostly have been previously subdivided.  The suburb is bordered by Oaklands, Waverley, Orchards & Glenhazel and similarly has an ideal location.

Access to the M1 Freeway is close at hand at both Atholl Oaklands & Corlett Drive intersections.  The busy Louis Botha Ave, dividing Highlands North into East & West, is a Rea Vaya Bus Transport Route and is also serviced by the Mini Bus Taxis.

This suburb has perfect proximity to excellent public & private Schools. St Mary's, Waverley Girls High & Highlands North Boys High are all within walking distance, however nearby suburbs have a large choice which are all an easy commute.  University of Johannesburg & Wits University Campus are easily accessible.

Numerous medical facilities are available. Linksfield & Rosebank Clinics are the closest. Charlotte Mxeke & Edenvale are the Government Hospitals in the vicinity.  Highlands North Medical Centre on Louis Botha Ave offers varied medical services.                                                                                                          Highlands North is close to the Norwood Hypermarket & Melrose Arch. Other large Malls in Rosebank, Sandton & Eastgate are within easy reach.  The chic boutiques, restaurants & coffee bars found on Grant St Norwood are also an attraction.

Highlands North is very close to Shuls, the Mosque & other places of Worship.

The Melrose Bird Sanctuary is a short drive from Highlands North and is a favourite spot for dog walkers, joggers & cyclists.  For outdoor enthusiasts, The Wilds Nature reserve is found in neighbouring Houghton.

Unlike affluent & trendy neighbouring suburbs, Highlands North property comes at attractive lower prices.  Being an older suburb most properties are free standing homes.  These are solidly built and rooms have good proportions. Prices range from as low as R 1.25 million and go up to R 4 million. The more expensive properties tend to be in quieter boomed off streets and have been renovated.  A number of the properties on the market have the added bonus of a garden cottage, which is perfect for extended family or to let for added revenue.

Closer to Louis Botha Ave, homes have been converted into Business premises, Medical Suites or offices for Attorneys & Accountants.  There are properties with this potential to purchase.

Highlands North is also home to the popular Randjes Retirement Estate set on 40 sprawling acres with beautiful trees & gardens.

Security in Highlands North is a priority.  CAP Security Force competently patrol the area.  The suburb was one to benefit from the installation of high definition CCTV Video Cameras.  Highlands North Residents Association is an involved organisation encouraging residents to take pride & initiative & to foster the marvellous community spirit that defines their suburb.
