Adding a new layer to Sandton’s residential mix

On the northern edge of Sandhurst - one of Johannesburg’s most established and prestigious residential suburbs - a small new development is getting rave reviews from homebuyers in the area who are increasingly looking for well-located, security-conscious homes that offer proximity and quality rather than sprawling scale.

Known as Sandhurst Ridge, the development occupies a particularly convenient pocket of the city. The Sandton CBD, with its concentration of corporate headquarters, hotels and retail centres, is only minutes away, while landmarks such as the Saxon Hotel sit just down the road. And for many residents, this balance - close to the action, but slightly removed from its intensity - is increasingly appealing.

Sandhurst Ridge consists of just 25 sectional title homes, keeping the overall feel compact and relatively low-density. Each unit is arranged over three levels, offering around 210sqm of internal space. The layouts favour open-plan living, with kitchens, dining areas and lounges designed to flow easily, while large windows bring in light and help soften the urban setting.

Three-bedroom configurations, double garages and staff accommodation point to a target market that includes young professional families, executives relocating to Johannesburg, and “lock-up-and-go” buyers scaling down from larger homes in Sandhurst, Hyde Park or Bryanston. Pet-friendly living and a strong emphasis on security also speak to the practical realities of modern city life.

Beyond the gates, residents are well placed to access some of Johannesburg’s most sought-after amenities. Sandton offers an unusually dense mix of private medical facilities, including Mediclinic Sandton and Morningside Mediclinic, along with top-tier schools such as St David’s Marist Inanda, Crawford Sandton and Redhill not far away. Major shopping destinations, from Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square to Hyde Park Corner, are just a short drive away, while parks and green spaces in nearby suburbs provide breathing room from the urban pace.

With prices now starting at R2,999m, Sandhurst Ridge enters the market at a level that is notable for its location. While Sandhurst itself is better known for large, high-value freehold homes, this development offers an alternative entry point into the area, particularly for buyers who are prioritising convenience, security and modern design over land size.

In that sense, Sandhurst Ridge is less about spectacle and more about fit: a development shaped around the connected and compact lifestyle that is the preference of many modern buyers, carefully positioned in one of Johannesburg’s most desirable areas.
