Its position straddles the Northern limits of Forest species of the Tsitsikamma, western extremities of Thicket, Southern extremities of Karroo as well as the western areas of Fynbos with some western extremities of fynbos endemic to the Eastern Cape such as the Loerie Lucadendron plant species. Moist Riverine Forest, Dry Valley Forest, Fynbos slopes, Karroo Succulent plants and shrubs, and Thicket intermingle on this 1192 hectares. Giant Yellowwood trees of 1000 years or older are found with some Giant Eastern Cape cycads of up to 4m in height.

The property has been developed on a small portion in keeping with the environment, natural stone has been used to build a Main Lodge Area, Management area, Diningroom, Lounge, Entertainment Area and Boma as well as swimming and plunge pool. There are 5 independent stone cottages, all built from natural stone, 3 x 2 bedroom and 2 x 1 bedroom, all unique, with fireplaces in bedrooms. These can house up to 22 people. The lodge area benefits from an abundant water supply as well as 5 x 5000-liter emergency storage tanks, a solar-powered system to the Main Lodge area for refrigeration, lighting and admin work. There is a 1.1 km airstrip available on the property and road access is gained from the R 62, 42 km on gravel, approx 1 hour and 10 min. As well as a private 4x4 route with direct access to the Baviaanskloof itself, some 36 km by road and 17 as the crow flies to the main R 332. The main N2 Cape Town to PE motorway is only some 8 km from Kareedouw, making it 1.5 hours from the lodge itself, yet you find yourself in this remote wilderness environment. The farm offers lovely walks and hiking trails, San art ( 5 sites on the farm itself ) birding, botanical interests as well as a large variety of free-roaming game, The tiny Blue Duiker, Common Grey Duiker, Steenbok, Mountain Reedbuck, Bushbuck, Klipspringers, Kudu and Buffalo amongst its guest and resident population as well as the shy and elusive Leopard . A large number of raptors, 5 of our large eagle species are seen, as well as other smaller mammals from Ant Eaters to Cape Clawless Otters, endangered Red Fin Minnows are found in abundance in the Mountain stream that passes through the farm. Water is in abundance, the mountain stream is perennial in that it has never stopped flowing even in the driest conditions. A dam in the Kloof provides a large supply of water and has never stopped overflowing in 20 years
