Hopefield at a glance

Once considered the capital of SA’s majestic West Coast, Hopefield is now a small – but thriving – settlement, located slightly inland of the Western Cape. It falls within Saldanha Bay Municipality and is found just 120 kilometres away from the vibrant city of Cape Town. The quaint town is also situated at the heart of the Sandveld, a fairly arid region with the Zoute River meandering through it. The geographic position and environmental setting gives Hopefield property owners some excellent opportunities for fishing and other leisure activities.

What are the major attractions in Hopefield and what makes the town unique?

Hopefield’s most unique characteristic is that it is the oldest town on the West Coast. The area still retains a lot of its old charm, which is evident in the local architecture. For instance, one of the first buildings constructed in the town, a Dutch Reformed Church, is still in use today. Hopefield is also known for its beautiful fynbos and magnificent spring daisies, which blossom after the region’s spring rains. As mentioned above, Hopefield property owners are also in for a treat as there are a number of historic buildings that one can visit throughout the town, including the fossil museum. The museum displays a wide variety of fossils collected from Elandsfontein located just outside of Saldanha.

What is the Hopefield property stock composition?

Like most of the towns and settlements found throughout the West Coast, the Hopefield property market is dominated by full title properties, which make up over 99% of the available stock. This is partly due to the fact that the town still retains majority of the original homes built throughout the years and exhibits fewer recent developments.
