Mulbarton History
Mulbarton is a reasonably new suburb in Johannesburg terms, only emerging during the mid 1970’s. Although water and electricity were almost immediately connected, telephone lines were not installed until 1977 and many roads were left un-tarred until 1978/9, after which streetlights followed.
The Panorama Drive-In was the only source of movies in Mulbarton and surrounding suburbs for many years. The location of this drive-in still exists, however, has been replaced by a popular flea market supplying great live entertainment as well.
Mulbarton General Information
Access from Mulbarton to Roodepoort, Germiston and Boksburg is excellent, and in particular, the centre of Johannesburg – perfect for visits to see the Nelson Mandela Bridge, the Market Theatre in Newtown, SAB World of Beer, the Apartheid Museum and Gold Reef City is easily reached.
