Midrand History

Originally surrounded by small agricultural ventures, the township of Halfway House was founded in 1920 and gained its status as an area during 1951.

After that the area was proclaimed a Town Council in mid-1981 and the historic name of Halfway House became Midrand. Subsequently (2000) Midrand was incorporated into the City of Johannesburg Municipality.
