New partners at Chas Everitt West Coast franchise

The Chas Everitt International franchise covering the lucrative Cape West Coast market has attracted two new partners to its top-performing executive team.

They are Larry Shaw and Polly Duffee, who are already working with original owners Lyn Eatwell and Karen Roux on plans to further expand the agency. .

Shaw, an investment and tax planner, entered the real estate industry in 2001 to extend the services of his investment brokerage. “I joined a property group but a serious case of envy persuaded me to switch to Chas Everitt International. It’s a dynamic company that gets the job done in an utterly professional manner.”

After discussions with Eatwell and Roux, Shaw was invited to join the West Coast office. He was also instrumental in introducing Duffee to the partners. Duffee, who moved to South Africa after running two successful printing companies in the UK, had bought her house in a deal handled by Shaw and decided property was just the challenge she was looking for.

Shaw, who originally targeted the West Coast property market because of the consistent returns it offered his clients, says the area from Milnerton to Melkbos is very lively and is still delivering excellent returns.

“The very first house I sold is a case in point. The 237sqm sectional title triplex in Kronenbosch, West Beach, was sold in late 2002 for R725 000. I have just sold it for a third time at R1,3-million to a British investor who wants to get a foothold in the lucrative South African property market. That translates to a consistent performance of about 21,5 percent per year – and no improvements have been made in that time.”

He says international buyers, currently making up about 10 percent of the market, are discovering that the area offers great investment scope. National buyers, mostly investors, also make up about 10 percent of buyers while another 10 percent comes from Cape Town’s southern suburbs. The bulk of buyers comes from the Blouberg area, he says.

“Property prices on the West Coast start at about R400 000 for a modest three-bedroom house inland. Apartments of about 60sqm sell at an average of R850 000 while large one-bedroom apartments of about 100sqm sell at R1,1-million and up.”
